A LOOK AT IRON MAN’S LOVE FOR HIS AUDI

The Marvel Cinematic Universe® (MCU) has been hugely popular in recent years, and as car lovers, we love that one of the most prominent characters is featured driving some amazing Audis! Tony Stark – aka Iron Man – is the character that launched the MCU as we know it, all the way back in 2008 with the first Iron Man movie.

Since that very first film in the now expansive universe, we’ve seen Tony drive some amazing Audi cars on the big screen. Let’s take a closer look at Tony Stark’s Audi collection over the years.

Iron Man 2008 – Audi R8

In Robert Downey, Jr.’s movie debut as Tony Stark, the filmmakers wanted to show a sporty, classy vehicle that matched the personality of the character. To achieve this, they went with the 2008 Audi R8, a high performance, mid-engine sports car that would quickly become synonymous with the character.

Iron Man 2 – Audi R8 Spyder

In the follow up to the widely successful first Iron Man movie, we again see the titular character with an affinity for Audi. While less prominently featured than the R8 in the original film, an updated Audi R8 Spyder can be seen in several scenes in Tony’s garage – letting audiences know that Iron Man still prefers nimble German sports cars, this time as a convertible!

Iron Man 3 – Audi R8 E-Tron

As part of a partnership between the movie studio and Audi, Iron Man 3 was an official part of launching the Audi R8 E-Tron, an electric version of the popular two-seater. In early scenes, he drives a white model (which is subsequently destroyed with the rest of his mansion), and near the film’s end, we see a red model that was also featured in a cross promotional commercial for both the car and the movie. Tony’s love interest, Pepper Potts, can also be seen driving an Audi S7 Sportback.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron – Audi R8

Audiences didn’t see Iron Man driving an Audi in The Avengers in 2012 (where he drove an Acura), but the staple R8 came back in Age of Ultron with an updated look and gorgeous orange paint job.

The 2016 Audi R8 also makes a cameo (along with Stark) in Captain America: Civil War, another MCU movie that features a car chase jam packed with other Audi models.

Avengers: Endgame – Audi E-Tron GT

Going big like the rest of the movie, Avengers: Endgame shows the tech-savvy Tony Stark in an Audi concept model E-Tron GT, one of Audi’s most sophisticated cars to date. The clip is brief, but serves to further connect the character’s prowess as an engineer and gearhead with Audi’s reputation as a technology-driven, cutting edge brand.

Over more than a decade of MCU blockbusters, audiences around the world have seen the iconic Iron Man driving equally iconic Audi vehicles – a relationship between the producers and auto manufacturer that has spread to other characters, advertisements, and real life associations (Robert Downey, Jr. has driven these famed Audis to movie premieres as well).

The beautiful machines align with the character’s personality, but you don’t have to be a “billionaire playboy philanthropist” to love Audi – and you don’t need Iron Man’s workshop to keep yours in great shape.
